Mission
The Australian arm is working in partnership with the NSW Government, to create an exciting new metro rail infrastructure project in Greater Western Sydney.
Comprising, Plenary, RATP Dev, Siemens and Webuild, the private sector partners are looking to use their metro rail expertise to deliver this city-shaping project, which will be delivered under a Public Private Partnership model and will provide a major economic stimulus for western Sydney.
KEY ASSIGNMENTS
Reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Readiness Director, the VIE – Operations Engineer will assist the Operations Team during the Delivery and Construction phase, mainly involved with the Operational, Project Management and Programming aspects. They will be working on a day to day basis across all teams in the organisation including Asset Management, Train Operations Lead (Operating Control Centre, Train movement) and the Customer Service Lead (organisation of stations, customer centric design and stakeholder management), HSEQ (training team) on topics related to Operations and Operation readiness.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Strategic Alignment and Integration:
- Coordinates the activities across various streams within the project.
- Aligns all aspects of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) to ensure seamless integration.
- Focus extends beyond technical readiness; also consider people, processes, and systems – handover and defect management.
- Harmonise inputs from different teams and stakeholders.
- Assist in producing the relevant documentation for Sydney Metro including O&M Readiness Management Plan
Program Planning and Execution:
- Contributes to the O&M program plan within the broader context of the Parklife planning (which encompasses both Design & Construction and O&M phases).
- To oversee the timeline, milestones, and deliverables related to O&M readiness.
- Ensure that the project is prepared for the test and commissioning phase, the trial operations phase, and ultimately, the first day of passenger operations.
Budget Adherence and Contract Compliance:
- Monitor expenses, allocate resources judiciously, and optimize costs.
- Ensure alignment with the contractual obligations specified in the O&M deed (as per the SM Contract).
People Mobilisation:
- Collaborates with HR and other relevant departments to ensure that the right people are in place at the right times.
- Supports ramp up preparation, recruiting, training, and preparing staff for their roles in O&M.
Risk Management:
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks that could impact operational readiness.
- Minimise disruptions during the transition to operational status.
Any other duties appropriate to project delivery as may from time to time be required.
DETAILS SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION
- Position based in Sydney, Australia from January 2027 to January 2028 – with an opportunity to extend for an additional year.
- This experience will be a great opportunity to discover the different aspects of metro organisation and in a competitive, developing and challenging environment.
- The candidate will be fully included in the Operational teams allowing them to understand the mechanisms of the organisation and of such a project in all its aspects.

Profile
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Master's Degree (from an Engineering School, Business School, or University) with a specialization in Project Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or Transport/Urban Planning
- Previous experience in transport (ideally public transport)
- Project management and managerial skills
- Creative and articulate, with the ability to proof, format and enhance the bids’ readability and presentation
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a team
- Organisational skills, rigour and proactivity
- Fluent English
